Building Bridges Prison Ministry Ends

In late Fall 2011, the PA Prison Society announced that Congress eliminated funding for the Second Chance Act, which was designed to improve outcomes for people returning to communities from prisons and jails. The Building Bridges-Adult Mentoring Program run by the Society was funded from this legislation, and thus was not awarded renewal funding. Numerous women inmates at SCI-Muncy were accompanied over the past few years by local women mentors who coached them through the process of returning to society, community and the workplace. Lisa Baird, a member of St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, Quiggleville, was the local case manager for this program.
