New Synod Care of Creation/Social Justice Team Forming
Acknowledging the need for a group within the synod as Christ’s Church and on of those who cannot speak for themselves to monitor, discuss, and respond to issues that involve stewardship of God’s creation (creation care) and issues of social justice for all, several synod pastors and lay people have taken the first steps to form such a team. The issues that precipitated such an interest are the publicity around the pros and cons of fracking and the possible environmental and human toll that the extraction process is exacting on the communities where it is occurring. There are also other issues that can arise and which might elicit the need for study and response on behalf of the synod, such as civil rights, fair housing, immigration, equality of education, and fair government policy. As the team progresses in its formation, more information will be publicized throughout the synod. In the meantime, anyone with an interest in learning more is welcome to contact Pr.
