SUMMARY:Youth Mission Trip
DESCRIPTION:This summer Allegheny Synod is sending a youth mission trip to Florida to help with hurricane relief from July 1-8. The plan is to take a bus from State College to Sarasota\, Florida with an overnight stop in North Carolina. Luther Springs camp is providing counselors and running the service projects and program for us. So it is a rather hands off trip but lots of fun and service for the youth. We do have enough adult leaders but if adults would like to come along\, they are more than welcome. Because price can be a make or break point\, the price will be somewhere around $700 per person. SUMMARY:GROW in the Snow
DESCRIPTION:GROW in the Snow Looks at Baptism:  All youth in 6-12th grade and their youth leaders are invited to attend this synod youth retreat on March 17-18. The theme of this year’s will be baptism. Experience your Creator\, play winter games and find refreshment in the peace of camp in winter. The retreat is from Friday night to Saturday afternoon\, but there is an option for youth and leaders to come just for the day on Saturday. The cost is $73 for the whole program. Each registered group should provide one adult (21 or over) for every seven youth and at least one adult for each gender represented. SUMMARY:Raise the Region
DESCRIPTION:Camp Mount Luther is participating in The First Community Foundation Partnership of PA’s “Raise the Region” on March 8-9\, 2023.  It is a 30-hour fundraising event starting at 6:00 p.m. and ending the next day at 11:59 p.m.  Money donated by the Blaise Alexander Family Dealerships will help stretch donations made to organizations that day.  Additional monetary prizes and incentives will be awarded\, too.  Proceeds raised for Mount Luther these days to the camp’s Annual Fund unless a donor gets in touch with the camp office to designate it for another camp cause.  To be part of Raise the Region\, visit www.raisetheregion.org during the event and make an online donation to camp. Running totals will be shown throughout the day at the Raise the Region website.  Camp Mount Luther has participated in Raise the Region for ten years and has garnered about $179\,000 in donations during this event. The camp hopes you will help us to have another successful year!

Those who attend will get Camel Bucks to spend in the camp store this summer.  Campersons from synod congregations who attend this event will get Camel Bucks for all their congregation’s Summer 2023 campers.  \nThis year’s summer camp season will begin on June 18 and run until August 8. There are programs for all ages from preschool to senior high\, and for adults and families. Camp Mount Luther is a special place where kids and families come together to grow with God and serve with smiles! Camp provides a safe place for people of all ages to relax and unwind in nature\, discover God’s love\, sing around the campfire\, learn more about themselves\, and make new friends while at the same time being renewed in mind and spirit.  \n

SUMMARY:Region 8 Racial Justice Training
DESCRIPTION:We are called to be a church that embraces each person and confronts racial\, ethnic\, cultural\, religious\, age\, gender\, familial\, sexual orientation\, physical\, personal and class barriers that can manifest as unjust treatment\, inequalities\, exclusion\, and violence. The ELCA’s Region 8 is committed to equipping leaders to recognize and understand the complexities and implications of racism and racial issues and is offering training in the areas of anti-racism and racial justice for leaders in partnership with synods\, congregations\, associations\, and social service agencies. \nRegion 8’s Racial Justice Training equips leaders (rostered and lay) to face the challenges of racism in a diverse\, complex and changing world by providing tools and resources that foster healthy and holy conversations. Each workshop addresses these aspects of racism: \n1) Talking about Race: language and vocabulary \n2) History and systemic racism in the United States\, and \n3) How to begin conversations and actions in your ministry context. \nEach training is offered on Zoom using a combination of instruction and small group conversation. Facilitators will represent the region to the extent possible\, spearheaded by the Reverend Carla Christopher Wilson. Cost is $25 per person; however\, if cost is a barrier\, please contact Marty Shifflett at mshifflett@lss-elca.org\, or 717-652-1852\, ext. 115. Because we want to make this training as accessible to as many people as possible\, if two people from a congregation register\, additional participants (beyond 2) from that congregation may attend at no cost. SUMMARY:Youth Leadership Summit
DESCRIPTION:Each year the ELCA brings young leaders from across our church to gather for a long weekend of leadership development\, networking\, and faith formation. The Youth Leadership Summit will equip young leaders through workshops\, speakers\, and experiential activities. Youth will be inspired through music and worship. Participants will be challenged to take home what they learn and inspire action in their own synods\, congregations\, and communities. Youth will also hear from leaders of young adult ministries across the ELCA to help our young people look ahead to their next faith community. This event is planned and led by the ELCA Youth Core Leadership Team and will be held at Carol Joy Holling Conference Center in Ashland\, Nebraska.

Camp Mount Luther’s Jim Vitale and Chad Hershberger invite you to join them on an Advent Holy Hike from 2:00-4:00 p.m. on Sunday\, December 18\, 2022. Bring your family and friends as we walk the camp trails and share scripture\, song\, and reflection during this season of preparation for Christ’s coming. We start and end at the Evergreen Center and we’ll have hot chocolate\, coffee\, and tea to warm you up after our hiking.

DESCRIPTION:The Interim Ministry Network Annual Conference showcases the best thinking in transitional ministry.  IMN’s Conference continues for a third year in a virtual format. This is not just for Interim Clergy. Transition is all around us and it happens every day in all faith communities. IMN provides directly applicable information and best practices for all clergy and lay leaders who are leading faith communities during any times of transition. Practitioners lead workshops; keynote/plenary speakers offer wisdom\, expertise and passion; participants share their experiences; new friendships are formed; and all participants leave with nourishment and enhanced courage for their next transition. DESCRIPTION:In October\, Camp Mount Luther will have their annual Evening at Shade Mountain Winery. This is a fundraising opportunity to share fellowship\, entertainment\, and locally produced wine\, all to benefit the camp.  There will be a limit of 50 people for this year’s event\, which will run from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday\, October 28\, 2022. Entertainment will be provided by Mark Alexander\, a local acoustic musician. Menu to include heavy appetizers\, desserts\, and a complementary glass of wine.
