Women's Retreat: Stop Hear Listen

The annual women’s retreat at Lutherlyn in Western PA is going to be a great event. The Women of the NWPA and SWPA are inviting all women from the state to this weekend event. Jennifer Hockenbery, the new executive director of the Women of the ELCA, will be part of the retreat.

Some women from our synod might enjoy this opportunity both as a personal or collective retreat experience. If interested in getting a group from USS together, please email news@uss-elca.org.

Campfire Worship

Camp Mount Luther in partnership with Sharon Lutheran Church is hosting a Campfire Worship at Sharon, 120 S. Market St., Selinsgrove on Thursday, October 8, 2026. Gather friends for a cozy evening of song, scripture, and S’mores around the magic of a crackling fire. No RSVP is required, just bring your own lawn chair or blanket.

Everyone is invited to join for a day of learning and fellowship, sponsored by the Lay Ministry Institute on October 10, 2026, from 9-3 at Sharon, Selinsgrove. SueEllen Spotts will present the keynote and workshops will include two tracks:

Transformation

•       Storytelling with Holly Fry

•       Change Begins With “M” with Pr. Diane Booth-Bubb

Faith Formation

•       YOU Can Lead Bible Study with Sherry Bingaman

•       Saint Paul and Spiritual Gifts with The Rev Dr. Tom Martin

A worship service will be held at 2 p.m. in the sanctuary. Cost is $10 per person to cover lunch. Pre-register by contacting the Synod Office at (570) 524-9778 by October 2, 2026.

Youth Halloween Party

The synod’s YouthMinistry Initiative, led by youth from around the synod, will meet in October for a Halloween Party! It will be held on October 11, 2026, from 2-4 p.m. at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church,Williamsport. Youth in grades 6-12 are invited to solve a mystery, carve pumpkins and eat pizza.
Old Immanuel Hymn Sing

October 11, 2026 2:30 pm - 3:30 pm

Mr. Stuart Hague, Certified Lay Pastor in the Presbyterian Church (USA) will be leading the Annual Hymn Sing at Old Immanuel Lutheran Church, 2633 Lime Bluff Road, Muncy, Pa, on Sunday, October 11, 2026, at 2:30 pm. The theme of the service this year is “God’s Grace,” and the music, hymns, and teachings will center around that topic.

Considered to be the mother church of Lutheranism in Lycoming County, Old Immanuel was founded in 1791 and lived until its doors shut permanently in 1920, after giving rise to 19 otherLutheran congregations.

Light refreshments will be served on the church lawn after the service. Please note that the church does not have running water or electricity and is not fully handicap accessible.
