Up and Down the Valleys: September 2026

About 100 runners enjoyed the 25th Annual Dandelion Run held on September 5 at Camp Mount Luther.  The Heasley family started the race in memory of Rev. Glenn E. Heasley, Jr., former Assistant to the Bishop whose favorite “flower” was the dandelion. No matter what you do with them, they always rise again!

As part of its ‘Loaves and Fishes’ ministry, the folks at Washingtonville Lutheran (Pastor Diane Bubb) hosted the community with a hot dog roast this summer.  Holly Fry served as our “griller.” They were joined by staff members of the PA CareerLink who offered mobile workforce services to those seeking employment opportunities.  The social hall was open with shelf stable meals and essentials.

Mark your calendars! Next year’s Synod Assembly will be on June 5, 2027, at Camp Mount Luther.

Members of St. John’s, Mifflinville (Pastor Daniel Warntz), celebrated America’s 250 Anniversary and the heritage of their church by hosting a special service on July 5th.  The church used Henry Muhlenberg’s Liturgy of 1748 which Henry wrote for the Lutheran churches after the formation of the Pennsylvania Ministerium.

Six members of the USS, pastors and Lay Leaders, attended ULS’s Lay School of Theology/Theological Education with Adults in Gettysburg in July. They gathered for a week of deep learning, worship, and fellowship.
