New Home for Important Ministries

When Christ United Methodist, Northumberland, closed their doors, they were looking for someone to step in and take over two of the ministries that were important to them. They hoped God would provide a way for these vital community ministries to continue after their closing. When hearing about this, St. John’s, Northumberland (Pastor Karla Leiby) stepped up and now they are hosting the Community Blessing Shed and the Born Again Boutique.

The Community Blessing Shed provides nonperishable food, produce, and some household products to those in need.  Neighbors host food drives to keep it supplied.  It started as a small box with some wooden tiered steps until an Eagle Scout candidate from St. John’s built the current which was moved from the Methodist church to the Lutheran church this summer.

The Born Again Boutique provides donated gently used clothing and accessory items for all ages. Last year, the boutique served over 1,000 people.  It functions primarily on a barter system.  If someone has something they can no longer wear/use, they can bring it to trade for another item that they can utilize.  There is also the option of bringing a donation to the Blessing Shed for shopping credit at the boutique.  Of course, no one is turned away if they don’t have sufficient resources. St. John’s hopes to have the boutique reopened in its new location this Fall.
