Up and Down the Valleys: March 2025

  • News

Due to a major construction project at Susquehanna University this year, Synod Assembly has been moved to Camp Mount Luther. We’ll be “Living into the Good News” as we worship together, hear from our fellow congregation members and churchwide leaders, and help to shape another year in mission for Christ! This year, we will be treated to meeting Rev. Norma Malfatti, ELCA Senior Director for Director for Evangelical Mission Relationships in the Christian Community and Leadership Home Area.  Pastor Norma is passionate about evangelism and sharing God’s love for all people. She also serves on churchwide’s Multi-Ethnic Ministry Initiative, God’s Love Made Real Transformation Team and the Synod Engagement Team.  When you meet her, ask about her favorite hobbies: reading, hiking, finicky cats and the New York Yankees. Guests are welcome and encouraged to attend. If your congregation hasn’t already elected two voting members to attend the 2025 Annual Assembly, you should do so right away.

Prayer petitions are prepared and sent by the Upper Susquehanna Synod Global Ministry Committee. Please use them in your congregation in your intercessory prayers, print them in your bulletin or newsletter. The committee welcomes suggestions for petitions. In March, The Lay Ministry Institute held a worship practicum. Participants worshipped together with a Morning Prayer service.  The practicum topics included liturgy, setting the table for Holy Communion, worship resources, as well as an informative question and answer session.

Camp Mount Luther’s Summer 2025 registration and staff application remains open. Check out both on their website. Raise the Region 2025 was a big success for Camp Mount Luther.  140 gifts totaling $29,140 were given during the 30-hour online philanthropic event. Thanks to all who donated!
