Camp Celebrates Milestone
The Camp Mount Luther community gathered on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2026, to celebrate a remarkable milestone: 25 years of leadership by Executive Director Chad Hershberger. Nearly 100 members of the camp family came together to mark the anniversary (officially Jan. 1) with gratitude, laughter, and a few meaningful surprises.
The camp’s Board of Directors hosted a catered dinner and short program in the Evergreen Center, creating an evening filled with stories, appreciation, and shared memories. Reflections were offered by Rev. James Park Bricker, Charlene Rineer, Sister Marianne Brock, and Rev. Gary Schaeffer. Chad’s wife, Sarah Hershberger, and daughter, Claire Hershberger, shared a musical tribute that brought a special touch to the celebration. The evening also included the presentation of a monetary gift and a canvas photo of the camp pond in autumn.
A highlight of the gathering was a blessing for Chad’s ministry led by Bishop Craig A. Miller of the Upper Susquehanna Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, as those present joined in laying hands in prayer.
In his remarks, Chad expressed heartfelt gratitude for the support of the camp community and reflected on the relationships formed over his years of service as the most meaningful part of his work. He also shared excitement about the future, pointing to the recently completed Maple Village Bathhouse, a new strategic plan, and expanded programming as signs of renewed energy and vision for the years ahead.
